Court Concludes Hearing on Writ Petition Filed by Senior DIG Varuna Jayasundara

Colombo, June 17 – The Court of Appeal today (17) concluded proceedings on a writ petition filed by Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Varuna Jayasundara, seeking to prevent his arrest without reasonable grounds in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The petitioner had requested the court to issue an order preventing any unlawful arrest linked to the ongoing investigations.
During the proceedings, the Attorney General’s Department assured the court that there is currently no decision to arrest the petitioner. Following this submission, Justices Sasi Mahendran and Aditya Patabendige stated that further action on the case would be temporarily suspended.
It was also informed to the court that recommendations regarding the transfer of the petitioner have been submitted to the National Police Commission.
With these developments, the court concluded the hearing, while investigations related to the Easter Sunday attacks are expected to continue separately under ongoing legal procedures.
