South Korea to Continue Support for Sri Lanka’s Health and Media Sectors

Colombo, June 16 – The Republic of Korea has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the future development of Sri Lanka’s health and media sectors, while also pledging continued assistance through grants and development cooperation programmes.
The statement was made by South Korea’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Miyon Lee, during a meeting held yesterday (16) at the Ministry of Health and Mass Media with Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The Minister noted that Korea is a close and long-standing development partner of Sri Lanka, highlighting its significant contributions through organisations such as KOFIH, KOICA, and EDCF, which have supported multiple projects in the health sector.
He further stated that cooperation with the Korean government has been efficient and productive, enabling better implementation of development projects and ensuring stronger outcomes for Sri Lanka’s healthcare system. He also expressed gratitude for Korea’s continued support in areas such as health, education, digitalisation, and solid waste management.
Ambassador Miyon Lee reaffirmed that Korea will continue its assistance to strengthen Sri Lanka’s health sector, expressing satisfaction with ongoing collaboration. She also elaborated on several projects supported by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), including initiatives to enhance biomedical engineering services in Sri Lanka.
She further stated that Korea is willing to extend support for future development plans in Sri Lanka’s media sector. Describing Sri Lanka as a beautiful country, she also noted the popularity of tourist attractions such as the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy and Sigiriya among Korean visitors.
The meeting was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Health Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Additional Secretaries Janaka Kithsiri Gunawardena, Salinda Bandara, K.P. Yogachandra, Deputy Director General of Biomedical Services S.S.L. Herath, Secretary General of KOFIH Kwan Baek-Baek, and other representatives from the Korean Embassy.
