Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.

Wind

Winds over the sea areas around Sri Lanka are expected to blow from the southwest at speeds of 30–40 km/h.

Wind speeds may increase up to 60–65 km/h at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankesanthurai and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

In other sea areas around the island, wind speeds may increase up to 50 km/h at times.

Sea Conditions

The sea areas off the coast extending from Mullaitivu to Chilaw via Kankesanthurai and Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, are expected to be very rough at times.

Other sea areas around the island are expected to be fairly rough at times.

Wave heights in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota may rise to 2.0–2.5 metres. (This refers to offshore wave heights and not waves reaching the shore.)

Advisory

During thundershowers, strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions may occur temporarily in the affected sea areas.

Fishermen and naval operators are advised to exercise caution while engaging in activities at sea. 🌊⛈️🚤
