Sri Lanka and Vietnam Sign First-Ever MoU on Science and Technology Cooperation

Sri Lanka and Vietnam today (08) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the first time to strengthen cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, marking the first such bilateral agreement between the two countries in this sector.
On behalf of the Sri Lankan Government, the agreement was signed by Minister of Science and Technology Professor Krishantha Abeysena, while Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology, Vu Hai Quan, signed on behalf of the Vietnamese Government.
The main objective of the agreement is to enhance long-term cooperation between the two nations by improving scientific knowledge, research capabilities, and technological expertise to achieve national development goals.
Accordingly, both countries are expected to strengthen collaboration in areas including biotechnology, agriculture, herbal and food technology, climate-resilient technologies, electronics, automation, and information technology.
The agreement also includes provisions for implementing joint research and development projects, exchanging scientists and technology experts, organizing seminars and training programs, and jointly funding research initiatives.
