Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu Arrives in Sri Lanka on Official Visit

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has arrived in Sri Lanka on an official visit.

He landed at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake at around 5:35 p.m. today (3), aboard a SriLankan Airlines flight.

The visiting President and his delegation were formally welcomed by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya upon arrival.

The official welcoming ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

President Muizzu is accompanied by his wife and around 20 senior officials from the Maldives.

This marks his first official diplomatic visit to Sri Lanka since assuming office as President in 2023.

He is visiting at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and will remain in Sri Lanka until the 6th of this month.

During the visit, he is expected to hold bilateral discussions with President Dissanayake aimed at further strengthening the long-standing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Additionally, six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit to enhance bilateral cooperation.
