Political Parties Launch May Day Rallies Across Sri Lanka

May Day rallies organized by various political parties to mark International Workers’ Day have officially commenced today.

The National People’s Power (NPP), representing the government, is conducting an extensive campaign with 21 rallies across 21 districts. These events are being held under the theme “People’s Power for a People’s Republic.” President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is participating in the main Nuwara Eliya district rally.

Major Party Venues and Leadership:

  • Sarvajana Balaya: Their May Day meeting is currently underway at the Henry Pedris Grounds in Colombo, led by party leader and Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera.

  • Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB): The main opposition has decided to hold its rally at the P.D. Sirisena Grounds in Maligawatta.

  • Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP): The party is hosting its annual May Day gathering at Campbell Park in Borella.

  • Frontline Socialist Party (FSP): Members and supporters have organized their rally at Hyde Park in Colombo.

Security has been tightened around these venues to ensure the smooth flow of the processions and public safety.
