Sri Lanka today (21) marks seven years since the tragic Easter Sunday attacks, with nationwide religious observances and memorial services planned across churches.
According to the National Catholic Communications Director, Rev. Fr. Jude Krishantha Fernando, special prayers and remembrance events will be held this morning in all churches to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks.
The commemorations include the ringing of church bells, a two-minute silence, lighting of candles or oil lamps, and special prayer services.
A main service will be conducted at St. Anthony’s Shrine under the leadership of Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
Police have announced special traffic arrangements in the surrounding areas, with vehicle movement restricted from 7:00 a.m. until the conclusion of the services.
Another special service is also scheduled at St. Sebastian’s Church.
Meanwhile, a “Prayer Walk” involving bishops and clergy will commence at 4:00 p.m. from Maris Stella Grounds in Negombo and proceed towards St. Sebastian’s Church as part of the remembrance events.
