
The Sri Lanka Railways has announced that the Sagarika train will resume operations from today (27) following its recent derailment.
Transport Superintendent Asanga Samarasinghe confirmed that the train will operate as usual from today.
The train had derailed on the 24th while traveling from Beliatta to Maradana near the Waththuwa railway station, with 11 out of its 13 compartments going off track.
Based on initial investigations, four railway staff members who were on duty at the time have been temporarily suspended. These include:
- The train driver
- The guard
- The assistant driver
- The assistant guard
Authorities stated that they will remain suspended until the completion of the investigation into the incident.
Further inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
