Meeting between Australian High Commissioner and Eastern Province Governor

The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Matthew Duckworth, met with the Governor of the Eastern Province, Dr. Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera, recently at the Governor’s Secretariat in the Eastern Province.

This marked the High Commissioner’s first official visit to the Eastern Province.

During the meeting, discussions were held on development activities in the Eastern Province, possible support from the Australian Government, maritime and regional security, and the development of the tourism, fisheries, and agriculture sectors.

Land-related issues in the province were also discussed. The Governor explained that both the Government of Sri Lanka and the President are giving special attention to resolving land issues through a coordinated mechanism involving the Provincial Council and the Central Government.

Investment opportunities and industrial development in Sri Lanka were also reviewed, along with discussions on the current efforts to create a more investor-friendly environment in the country.

The High Commissioner noted that relations between Sri Lanka and Australia remain strong and expressed Australia’s interest in working closely with the Eastern Province in the future.
