Disappearances Issue Is Not Just a File Matter – Northern Governor Vethanayahan

Northern Province Governor N. Vethanayahan has stated that the issue of missing persons in the Northern Province is not merely a routine file matter lying in government offices.

He emphasized that it is a deeply sensitive humanitarian issue connected to the unresolved grief, decades-long suffering, and painful uncertainty faced by thousands of families, and therefore must be approached with compassion and understanding.

The Governor made these remarks while addressing a nationwide awareness programme organized by the Office on Missing Persons, held yesterday evening (07.05.2026) at the Capacity Development Centre of the Kilinochchi District Secretariat.

During the event, Chairman of the Office on Missing Persons Mahesh Katulanda joined via Zoom technology and delivered the welcome address, explaining the objectives and importance of the awareness programme.

A special message sent by Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara was also officially presented during the event.
