Parliament to Convene from June 9 to June 12

Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera announced that Parliament will convene from 09 June to 12 June 2026, following a decision taken at the recent meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.

Accordingly, on all sitting days, time has been allocated from 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. for Parliamentary business listed under Standing Order 22 (Items 1 to 6). This will be followed by Questions for Oral Answers from 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., and questions under Standing Order 27(2) from 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.

On Wednesday, June 10, time has been specially allocated from 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. for questions directed to the Prime Minister, followed by Questions for Oral Answers from 10.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m.

June 9 (Tuesday)

From 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., Parliament will debate and approve several Orders under:

  • Stamp Duty (Special Provisions) Act
  • Ports and Airports Development Levy Act
  • Excise (Special Provisions) Act
  • Value Added Tax (VAT) Act
  • Resolution under Standing Order 119

Thereafter, from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., a Resolution under the Public Security Ordinance will be debated and approved.

June 10 (Wednesday)

From 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., Parliament will take up:

  • Telecommunications Levy (Amendment) Bill
  • Second Reading of the Finance (Amendment) Bill
  • Resolution under the Essential Public Services Act

From 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., an Adjournment Motion moved by the Opposition will be debated.

June 11 (Thursday)

From 11.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., Parliament will consider:

  • Second Reading of the Mediation (Civil and Commercial Disputes) Bill
  • Order under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act

From 1.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., time has been allocated for an Opposition-led Adjournment Debate on the current situation in the country.

June 12 (Friday)

From 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., Parliament will debate and approve:

  • Regulations under the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Act
  • Supplementary Estimates

From 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., Parliament will continue, for a second day, the Adjournment Debate on the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s 2025 Economic Review Report, which commenced on 20 May 2026.

In addition, at the request of Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha, approval has been granted to conduct an awareness programme for Members of Parliament on 10 June, with the participation of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and senior Central Bank officials. The programme will focus on the country’s current monetary policy and related matters.
