Sri Lankan Youth Athletes Return Home After Winning 8 Medals at the Asian U20 Athletics Championship

The Sri Lankan Youth Athletics Team returned to the country on June 2 after an impressive performance at the 2026 Asian U20 Athletics Championship held in Hong Kong.
The team achieved a remarkable result by winning eight medals in total:
🥇 2 Gold Medals
🥈 2 Silver Medals
🥉 4 Bronze Medals
Sri Lanka finished 8th in the overall medal standings, outperforming several strong Asian nations.
The athletes received a warm welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport. Following instructions from the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, a delegation of ministry officials was present to greet the team. Representatives from Sri Lanka Athletics, ministry officials, and family members also attended the reception.
Among the team’s standout performers were:
- Tarushi Abhisheka — Gold Medal in the Women’s 1500m and Bronze Medal in the Women’s 800m.
- Ransini Perera — Gold Medal in the Women’s 200m event.
The team’s success has been widely praised as a major achievement for Sri Lankan athletics and a reflection of the talent, dedication, and potential of the country’s young athletes on the Asian stage. 🏅🇱🇰
