UK Passes Law to Create ‘Smoke-Free Generation’

The United Kingdom has passed a landmark bill aimed at creating a “smoke-free generation,” banning smoking for those born after 2008.

The legislation, titled “Tobacco and Vapes Bill,” has been approved by both houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Under the new law:

  • Individuals aged 17 and below are prohibited from purchasing cigarettes
  • Anyone born on or after January 1, 2009 will never be legally allowed to buy cigarettes throughout their lifetime

The primary objective of the bill is to prevent young people from starting smoking at an early age and to gradually eliminate tobacco use among future generations.

With the passage of this legislation, the UK aims to significantly reduce smoking rates and promote long-term public health by restricting access to tobacco products for today’s youth.
