Government MP Comments on Mullivaikkal Remembrance and Tamil Politics

A Member of Parliament from the National People’s Power, Pasmin Sheriff, stated that previous governments had used Mullivaikkal remembrance as a political tool while failing to provide any form of freedom to the Tamil people.
He said that leaders including Mahinda Rajapaksa, Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Gotabaya Rajapaksa, among others, had consistently used the emotions of the Tamil community for political purposes.
He made these remarks during a media discussion.
He further stated that all those who lost their lives during the final stages of the war are considered as fellow citizens, and emphasized that the current government under the National People’s Power has neither engaged in nor intends to engage in politics based on the suffering of the Tamil people.
He also pointed out that poor decisions made by early political leadership were a major cause of the prolonged conflict situation in the country.
