Hill Country People Will Be Protected Under NPP Government – Deputy Minister Pradeep

Colombo | Political News

Deputy Minister Sundaralingam Pradeep stated in Parliament that Hill Country Tamil communities will be protected under a National People’s Power (NPP) government and that their long-standing rights will be ensured.

He made these remarks during Tuesday’s (05) parliamentary debate on regulations under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act. Addressing the House, the Deputy Minister highlighted that Hill Country communities have faced decades of marginalization and continued hardships.

Referring to a recent incident in the Neelagamam estate in Kahawatta, he noted that tensions arose when a worker, who had sought permission from estate management to construct a house, did not receive approval and instead built a temporary dwelling on an already allocated plot of land.

He emphasized that such incidents reflect broader systemic issues affecting the community, and reiterated that under an NPP administration, measures would be taken to safeguard their rights, improve living conditions, and address long-standing grievances related to land and housing.

The statement comes amid ongoing discussions on social justice and minority rights within the country’s political landscape.
