Sri Lankan School Boxers Win Two Bronze Medals at Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championship 2026

Sri Lankan school athletes Amodhya Jayarathna and Himaya Hettiarachchi secured two bronze medals at the Asian Under-15 and Under-17 Boxing Championship 2026, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The championship was conducted under the supervision of the Boxing Association of Asia.

Amodhya Jayarathna, representing Viharamahadevi Girls’ School, Kandy, won the bronze medal in the 30–33 kg weight category. Meanwhile, Himaya Hettiarachchi of Hemamali Girls’ School, Kandy, claimed bronze in the 49 kg weight division.

With these achievements, Sri Lanka finished ninth in the overall medal standings of the tournament.

The performances of the young athletes highlight the growing potential of school-level boxing in Sri Lanka on the international stage.
