RCB beat Punjab Kings by 23 runs to secure Playoff qualification

In a crucial IPL match held on Sunday (17) at the Dharamshala Stadium, the defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings by 23 runs and became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
The defeat has put the Punjab Kings, last season’s runners-up, in a difficult position, with their chances of reaching the playoffs now under serious threat.
Half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer, along with disciplined death bowling from Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Salam, played a key role in RCB’s victory.
Batting first, RCB posted a strong total of 222 for 4 in 20 overs. Jacob Bethell was dismissed early for 11 runs, but the innings was stabilized by a 76-run partnership between Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli. Kohli scored 58 runs, while Padikkal made 45.
Later, Venkatesh Iyer and Tim David added 65 runs for the fourth wicket. Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 73, while Tim David contributed 28 runs.
For Punjab Kings, Harpreet Brar took 2 wickets for 35 runs.
Chasing 223, Punjab Kings managed 199 for 8 in 20 overs. Shashank Singh (56), Cooper Connolly (37), Marcus Stoinis (37), and Suryansh Shej (35) were the main contributors.
In the final stages, Punjab needed 40 runs off the last two overs, but Josh Hazlewood bowled a tight 19th over, conceding just 7 runs.
In the final over, Rasikh Salam held his nerve, conceding 4 runs but taking 2 crucial wickets in the 2nd and final deliveries, sealing the win for RCB.
Rasikh Salam finished with 3 wickets for 36 runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 2 wickets for 38 runs.
