Supreme Court Fixes September 7 to Confirm Submissions in Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena Appeal

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has ordered that the appeal petition filed by former minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena seeking the dismissal of the corruption case filed against him by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption be called again on September 7 to confirm submissions.
The petition was taken up today (15) before a Supreme Court judge bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justice Achala Wengappuli, and Justice Sampath Wijeratne.
The petitioner, former minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, stated that a corruption case had been filed against him before the Colombo High Court by the Bribery Commission under corruption charges.
He further noted that although his lawyers had raised preliminary objections arguing that the case could not legally proceed, the High Court had rejected those objections.
The petitioner argued that the High Court’s decision was unlawful and requested the Supreme Court to dismiss the case filed against him.
After considering the submissions made, the Supreme Court bench ordered that the petition be recalled on September 7 for confirmation of submissions.
