Battaramulla War Memorial Sees Tense Standoff Between Wimal Weerawansa Group and Police

A tense situation erupted today near the War Heroes Memorial in Battaramulla following a confrontation between former minister Wimal Weerawansa and police officers stationed at the site.
According to reports, Wimal Weerawansa and a group of supporters had arrived at the memorial carrying floral tributes to commemorate fallen war heroes. However, police officers reportedly prevented the group from entering the memorial premises.
The restriction led to a heated argument between the former minister’s group and the police. During the confrontation, members of Weerawansa’s group strongly criticized the current government over the incident.
Tensions further escalated when the group attempted to proceed past the police barrier despite being denied entry. Police officers then made efforts to stop them, resulting in a brief standoff between both sides at the entrance to the memorial.
Although access to the memorial was ultimately not granted, Wimal Weerawansa and his supporters placed floral tributes at the entrance gate of the monument and paid their respects there.
