Adverse Weather Conditions Expected to Gradually Ease

Department of Meteorology Director Merril Mendis stated that the prevailing adverse weather conditions and heavy rainfall in the country are expected to gradually decrease over the coming days.

According to him, this is due to the current atmospheric system moving very slowly towards the north.

He explained that although scattered showers may still occur in several areas in the coming days because of the movement of this atmospheric system, the intensity and speed of the rainfall are expected to reduce gradually.

However, due to the influence of the western and south-western wind flow across the country, occasional rainfall may still occur in:

  • Western Province
  • Sabaragamuwa Province
  • Central Province
  • North Western Province
  • Galle District
  • Matara District

Merril Mendis further noted that the severe weather situation is gradually easing, while also urging the public to remain attentive to weather updates and changing conditions.
