84% of Sri Lankans Willing to Donate Eyes, Says Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health has stated that 84 percent of the people in Sri Lanka have expressed willingness to donate their eyes.
According to the Ministry, during the past 15 years since the establishment of the National Eye Bank, around 17,000 corneas received by the bank have been transplanted into 12,000 patients.
The Ministry further noted that between 4,000 and 5,000 corneas have also been donated to foreign countries.
It also stated that the National Eye Bank, which is internationally recognized, receives special demand for corneas from several Asian countries including Singapore and South Africa.
