Sri Lanka Issues Guidelines for Remote Public Services Using Digital Technology

The Ministry of Digital Economy and the Ministry of Public Administration have jointly taken steps to issue guidelines for institutional heads on effectively using digital technologies to deliver government services remotely.

This move follows earlier government measures to limit office-based services due to fuel supply constraints and broader energy management challenges arising from the current situation in the Middle East.

Under instructions from a Cabinet committee appointed by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, discussions were held with relevant authorities to explore the feasibility of shifting toward remote service delivery wherever possible.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Digital Economy has introduced interim guidelines to help public institutions:

  • Deliver services remotely
  • Utilize digital tools efficiently for routine office functions

These guidelines have been prepared in all three languages and are available for download via the official link:

Officials stated that this initiative aims to ensure continuity of public services while reducing pressure on national fuel resources.
