Sri Lanka Advances 14 Places in 2026 Global Peace Index, Ranks Second in South Asia

Sri Lanka has improved its position in the 2026 Global Peace Index, moving up 14 places to rank 67th in the world, according to the latest report.

The country has also secured the second position in South Asia in the updated rankings, reflecting a notable improvement in its overall peace and stability indicators.

Global Rankings Overview

The report highlights that Iceland continues to hold the top position as the most peaceful country in the world.

At the other end of the index, Russia is ranked at the bottom of the Global Peace Index.

Regional Performance

Sri Lanka’s improved ranking places it second in South Asia, marking a significant advancement compared to previous years. The rise is seen as an indicator of improving internal stability and security-related conditions in the country.

The Global Peace Index evaluates countries based on factors such as levels of safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and degree of militarisation.
