Search operation underway for 4 missing fishermen off Point Pedro with Indian assistance

Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources R. Chandrasekaran has stated that all possible measures, including assistance from India and search operations in international waters, have been initiated to locate four fishermen who went missing after setting out to sea from Point Pedro.

He made these remarks while addressing the ongoing efforts to trace the missing fishermen.

He further noted that the incident is deeply tragic, and expressed sympathy and support for the families who are waiting for their loved ones.

Search operations are currently being carried out intensively within Sri Lanka’s maritime boundaries with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy and radar surveillance systems. However, since the fishermen have not been located within local waters, assistance has been requested through the Indian High Commission to extend search operations into Indian maritime areas as well.

He added that ministerial-level instructions have already been issued to the relevant authorities to ensure coordinated rescue efforts.

Due to strong winds and rough sea conditions, naval support is being fully utilized to continue search operations without interruption.

Officials from the ministry are maintaining continuous monitoring of both the rescue operations and the situation of the affected families.

Several parliamentarians, including Ilankumaran, Rajeevan, and other coordinating officials, are also actively involved in supporting the ongoing efforts.
