The circular has been distributed to ministry secretaries, provincial chief secretaries, heads of departments, chairpersons of corporations, and statutory boards.
According to the circular, the purchase and use of single-use plastic water bottles in all government institutions must be completely discontinued with effect from May 31, 2026.
The circular further instructs all heads of institutions to take the necessary measures to prevent the use of single-use plastic products within their respective organizations.
The Ministry noted that, in addition to this new directive, the provisions of the Public Administration Circular issued on April 2, 2025, remain in force.
Under these guidelines, all public institutions are required to follow the “3R” principle:
- Reduce – Minimize the generation of waste.
- Reuse – Encourage the repeated use of materials and products.
- Recycle – Process and reuse waste materials through recycling.
The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government also stated that the circular was issued with the approval of the Ministry of Environment.
This initiative is expected to help reduce plastic pollution, promote environmental sustainability, and strengthen the government’s efforts toward responsible waste management and a greener future. 🌱♻️
