Discussion Held Between Sri Lanka–Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association and Cuban Ambassador

A discussion was recently held in Parliament between members of the Sri Lanka–Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association and the Ambassador of Cuba to Sri Lanka, Patricia Lazara Cuesta, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Cuba.

The meeting was attended by members of the Sri Lanka–Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Association led by Sunil Kumara Gamage.

The main objective of the discussion was to explore future activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Association and identify opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Recalling the long-standing friendship between Sri Lanka and Cuba, Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage emphasized the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and democratic cooperation between the legislatures of both nations.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Patricia Lazara Cuesta stated that Cuba looks forward to expanding cooperation with Sri Lanka in areas such as healthcare, sports, agriculture, and climate change.

She also expressed Cuba’s commitment to strengthening inter-parliamentary diplomacy and mentioned plans to organize a virtual meeting to promote closer engagement between members of the friendship associations of both countries.

In addition, the Ambassador invited members of the Parliamentary Friendship Association to participate in events marking the centenary birth anniversary of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

The discussion also focused on the support Sri Lanka could extend to Cuba at the international level, while the Ambassador further briefed participants on the current situation facing Cuba.
