Strong Potential to Transform Mattala Airport into Regional Aviation Hub – Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku

Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku stated that Sri Lanka’s strategic geographical location creates significant potential to transform Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport into a regional aviation hub.

He made these remarks while addressing a pre-proposal meeting held at the airport premises regarding expressions of interest invited for investment opportunities linked to the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport.

The Deputy Minister further stated that the government plans to develop the airport in a manner that is more suitable and attractive for the aviation industry.

He explained that the new government has taken steps to address challenges that existed in the past, improve surrounding infrastructure, strengthen security measures, and create an investment-friendly environment. As a result, there has been considerable interest and positive responses from investors this time.

He also emphasized that a modern airport is no longer limited to passenger transportation alone, but has evolved into a key center for investments, job creation, and regional economic development.
