Seven Arrested for Illegal Treasure Excavation in Yapahuwa

Seven suspects have been arrested by the Mahawa Police for allegedly engaging in illegal treasure excavation activities in the Yapahuwa area, within the Mahawa Police Division.

The arrests were made during a raid conducted on Monday night (18) following information received by the police regarding the unlawful activity.

According to police, the suspects were involved in unauthorized treasure hunting at the location when officers carried out the operation.

The arrested suspects are between 17 and 51 years old and are residents of Magulpatha, Mahawa, Rideebendiella, and Balalla areas.

Police have also seized several tools and equipment believed to have been used for the excavation.

Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Mahawa Police.
