Trump Says No Final Decision Yet on Advanced Weapons Sales to Taiwan

Donald Trump has stated that the United States has not yet made a final decision regarding the sale of advanced weapons to Taiwan.
Speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One while returning after completing a three-day official visit to China, Trump said that a decision on the matter would be made soon.
According to reports, the Taiwan issue was one of the key topics discussed during bilateral talks between Trump and Xi Jinping.
During the discussions, Xi Jinping reportedly warned Trump directly that if the United States mishandles the Taiwan issue, it could trigger conflict between the two sides.
Speaking further on the matter, Trump stated:
“Xi Jinping told me that China strongly opposes Taiwan becoming an independent country. I listened to his views, but I did not respond.”
Trump also revealed that Xi had questioned whether the United States would defend Taiwan if China launched an attack.
However, Trump said he deliberately avoided answering the question.
“Only I know the answer to that question. I do not want to discuss it publicly,” he added.
The issue of Taiwan continues to remain one of the most sensitive and strategically important subjects in relations between the United States and China.
