Sri Lanka’s Official Foreign Reserves Fall Below USD 7 Billion Again

Sri Lanka’s official reserve assets declined below the USD 7 billion mark once again in April 2026, according to the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The total official reserves, which stood at USD 7,026 million at the end of March 2026, fell to USD 6,759 million by the end of April.

The foreign exchange reserves, which form the major component of the total reserves, also decreased from USD 6,800 million in March to USD 6,505 million in April, the data shows.

In addition, the Central Bank’s gold reserves slightly declined from USD 222 million to USD 219 million during the same period.

Sri Lanka had crossed the USD 7 billion reserve threshold in February 2026 for the first time in five and a half years, recording USD 7,284 million at the end of that month.

However, reserves fell by 3.5% in March to USD 7,026 million, and continued to decline in April, marking the second consecutive monthly drop in official reserve assets.
