Congress Extends Conditional Support to Vijay’s TVK

Chennai | Political News

The Indian National Congress has announced that it is willing to extend conditional support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) following the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election results.

TVK has emerged as the single largest party by securing 108 seats in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. However, the party still requires the support of 11 more legislators to form a government.

Reports indicate that TVK has reached out to parties including Congress, Left parties, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) seeking support to establish a ruling alliance.

Speaking to the media at Madurai Airport today (06), Congress leader Manickam Tagore stated that discussions were held last night with party MPs, MLAs, and senior leaders before arriving at a decision regarding support for TVK.

He emphasized that the Congress party’s primary stance is to prevent the entry or expansion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Tamil Nadu. He further noted that Vijay’s political position aligns against communal politics.

Tagore also clarified that the alliance between Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was limited to the 2026 Assembly elections, and that electoral process has now concluded.

The development is seen as a crucial step in determining the formation of the next government in Tamil Nadu, as post-election negotiations continue among key political parties.
