Mahinda Rajapaksa Calls for Full Probe into Treasury Cyber Theft

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has commented on the recent incident involving the disappearance of funds from the Treasury, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

He stated that if the reported USD 2.5 million had indeed been taken by hackers, efforts should not be limited to recovery alone, but must also focus on identifying how the breach occurred.

Rajapaksa emphasized that regardless of whether the amount is considered small or large, such incidents must be properly investigated to prevent recurrence and avoid larger financial frauds in the future.

He further noted that assuming the stolen money can be easily recovered is misleading, and warned that some parties may attempt to downplay or cover up serious irregularities.

The former President stressed that identifying and apprehending those responsible should be the priority, as suspects may later claim the funds have already been spent.
