
A police constable has been arrested over the alleged misappropriation of funds from the Police Reward Fund, according to official sources.
The suspect, who was attached to the payments division of the Mount Lavinia Police Station, had been responsible for handling financial disbursements.
Police stated that the constable is accused of misappropriating a sum of Rs. 3,540,415 from the fund. Charges have been filed against the suspect under the Public Property Act.
The arrest was carried out following directives from the Inspector General of Police, with investigations being conducted under the supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General Ranmal Kodithuwakku and on the instructions of Deputy Inspector General Chandana Kodithuwakku.
Further investigations into the incident are being led by Senior Deputy Inspector General Kamal Ariyawansa, as authorities continue to probe the full extent of the alleged financial misconduct.
