SriLankan Airlines Restructuring Committee Appointed

The Cabinet has approved the appointment of a special committee to carry out a strategic review and restructuring of SriLankan Airlines.

The committee will be chaired by Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, Senior Advisor to the President on Digital Economy.

Committee Members include:

• Thuminda Hulangamuwa – Senior Economic Advisor to the President
• Deshal de Mel – Finance and corporate strategy expert
• Thumith Fernando – Investment banking, mergers & acquisitions specialist
• Secretary to the Ministry of Finance or representative
• Secretary to the Ministry of Transport / representative from Civil Aviation Authority
• Chairman of SriLankan Airlines
• Legal experts in aviation, corporate and public law
• Aviation industry specialists

Purpose of the Committee

The government has identified the urgent need for a comprehensive strategic review of SriLankan Airlines, considering broader macroeconomic conditions.

The main objectives include:

• Reducing the long-term financial burden on the government
• Establishing a financially sustainable and commercially viable national airline
• Reviewing future strategic options and restructuring models
• Evaluating and recommending the most suitable restructuring path aligned with government objectives
• Providing oversight and guidance for implementation of selected strategies

The committee will operate during the restructuring process or until it is officially dissolved by the government.
