Possible Increase in School Transport Fees

Following the recent fuel price revision and the increase in diesel prices, school transport operators are facing rising operational costs. According to Malsri De Silva, Secretary of the All Island School Transport Association, there is now a need to consider increasing school transport fees.

He stated that instead of applying a fixed percentage increase, the association expects to discuss with parents and implement a reasonable adjustment.

He also pointed out that on several previous occasions, despite increases in diesel prices, transport fees were not raised in consideration of the financial situation of parents.

However, due to the current challenges, he noted that this time a certain increase in fees may be unavoidable.
