Cabinet Approves Revision of National Housing Policy

The Cabinet has granted approval to revise Sri Lanka’s National Housing Policy, Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa announced.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Government Information Department, he stated that the move aims to align housing strategies with current needs and global trends.

The revision is in line with the government’s policy framework “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life,” which emphasizes providing quality housing and infrastructure, particularly for low-income communities, under the theme “Comfortable Homes – Secure Living.”

Authorities noted that the existing National Housing Policy was last updated in 2019, and a further revision has now been identified as necessary to address modern challenges in human settlements.

Accordingly, Cabinet approval has been granted for a proposal submitted by the Minister of Housing, Construction and Water Supply to carry out the revision through a panel of experts in housing and human settlement development.
