Small Groups Cannot Bring Down the Government – President

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the government cannot be forced out of power based on the demands of a few small groups.

He made these remarks while addressing the May Day rally of the National People’s Power held in Nuwara Eliya under the theme “Power to the People – Strength to Governance.”

The President noted that the recent cyclone had severely affected the plantation sector, with many workers’ homes sustaining damage. However, he emphasized that the government has decided to provide unprecedented levels of compensation, prioritizing the welfare of working people.

He further stated that it is the people of the country who safeguard the government, and that it continues to remain stable due to the strong trust placed in it by the public.

The President pointed out that small groups consisting of around 10 to 15 individuals have been repeatedly calling for the government to step down. However, he stressed that a government that has earned the trust of the people cannot be overthrown by such limited voices.

He affirmed that the government remains strong with the support of the people and will continue to work for their welfare.

President Dissanayake also added that even if all groups seeking to oust the government unite, they would not be able to gather the support of even half of the population.
