Raid on Overpriced Rice Sales – Special Operation Conducted

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has carried out a special raid at a trade stall in the Kesbewa–Bokundara Economic Centre for selling rice, including Keeri Samba, above the government-approved Maximum Retail Price (MRP).
The raid was conducted as part of an ongoing island-wide operation aimed at identifying traders who sell rice at prices exceeding the limits announced through official gazette notifications.
Accordingly, several special inspections were carried out today (02) focusing on the Piliyandala area.
The CAA stated that continuous raids are being conducted across the country to curb unfair trade practices such as overpricing and hoarding of essential goods.
The public has been urged to immediately report any instances of selling goods at excessive prices or stockpiling. Consumers can submit complaints to the Consumer Affairs Authority via the hotline 1977 during office hours.
