Three Eastern University Students Injured After Building Collapse During Dance Practice

Three female students of Eastern University were seriously injured after part of a building collapsed while they were engaged in dance practice.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 6, 2026.
According to reports, the upper-floor building at the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies in Kallady, affiliated with Eastern University, had been planned for construction around five years ago.
However, despite concerns that the structure was unstable, it had allegedly been opened for student use.
During a dance practice session involving final-year students, a section of the upper floor suddenly collapsed and fell onto the students.
As a result, three students sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, questions have been raised regarding the construction quality of the building, and reports indicate that an official connected to the matter has resigned from their position.
