Question to Manu Bhaker About Vaibhav Suryavanshi Sparks Debate

A question linking young Indian achievers Manu Bhaker and Vaibhav Suryavanshi has sparked widespread discussion on social media.
During the 75th anniversary event of the National Rifle Association of India held in Delhi, Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker was asked by journalists about 15-year-old rising cricket talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Responding to the question, the 24-year-old Bhaker said, “Age is not a barrier to talent. With the right guidance and environment, one can achieve success at 6 or even at 60. If he receives proper support, he will definitely grow into a big star.”
Although her response was considered mature and respectful, many expressed dissatisfaction over asking an Olympic athlete about a cricketer, questioning the relevance of such a query.
Reacting to the issue, Joy Bhattacharya criticized the move in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
He stated, “Manu Bhaker is an Olympic medalist. Asking her opinion about Vaibhav Suryavanshi does injustice to her achievements and her sport. While sports editors may need comments from well-known figures to create headlines, using an Olympic athlete for that purpose is not appropriate. Next time, try asking Vaibhav Suryavanshi about Manu Bhaker—then you’ll understand the situation.”
