President Orders Completion of Rs. 500,000 Housing Compensation by End of May

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to complete the distribution of Rs. 500,000 compensation for partially damaged houses affected by the Tidwa cyclone by the end of May, except in complex cases.
The directive was issued during a progress review meeting held today (22) at the Presidential Secretariat, focusing on compensation payments and housing support for affected families.
Special attention was also given to the progress of providing Rs. 5 million compensation for fully damaged houses, either to construct new homes or purchase houses. The President emphasized the need to expedite these payments as well.
Discussions were held on relocating families still living in temporary camps into interim housing until permanent homes are provided. Officials were instructed to identify suitable locations and accelerate the process.
The meeting also addressed plans to relocate residents from high-risk areas and to develop housing schemes for those who have not yet received compensation to purchase new homes.
