Low-Floor Bus Service Launched in Makumbura for Inclusive Transport

A new low-floor bus service designed to improve accessibility for persons with disabilities and special needs was launched today (21) in Makumbura under the Clean Sri Lanka national programme.
The initiative was inaugurated under the patronage of Bimal Rathnayake, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.
A total of 10 specially designed buses have been added to the service from today. These buses allow easy access for wheelchair users, visually impaired passengers, and pregnant women. Each bus is equipped with 30 seats, along with dedicated spaces for wheelchair passengers.
The pilot project will operate along routes from Makumbura Multimodal Centre to Colombo Fort, and from Makumbura to Kadawatha.
These routes will also provide improved access to key healthcare facilities, including the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the Apeksha Hospital, benefiting a wide range of passengers.
