Registrar General’s Department Issues Urgent Scam Warning

The Registrar General’s Department has issued a special notice warning the public about a financial scam being carried out using its name.

According to the department, fraudsters are using the hotline number 011 5226126 and similar numbers to obtain personal information from individuals. The following numbers have been identified in connection with the scam:

  • 077 116 7739
  • 074 275 6098

Scammers are reportedly posing as officials and claiming to register individuals for a Digital ID or e-National Identity Card through a mobile application that falsely uses the government emblem.

Authorities emphasized that the department does not conduct any such registrations via phone calls or unofficial apps.

The public is strongly advised:

  • Do not share personal or financial information over phone calls
  • Avoid engaging with suspicious links such as https://drpgov-lk.com
  • Verify any official communication through legitimate government channels

The department urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to relevant authorities.
