Case Against Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe Postponed

The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and his former secretary Saman Ekanayake has been postponed until July 8.

The order was issued today (29) when the case—related to the alleged misuse of public funds—was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.

The court also instructed the Criminal Investigation Department Sri Lanka to report on the progress of investigations at the next hearing.

During today’s proceedings, Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the aggrieved party, informed the court that steps would be taken to file indictments against the suspects before July 8.

He further stated that consideration is currently being given to whether Maithri Wickremesinghe should also be named as a suspect in the case.

Following this, the Magistrate ordered that an update on the current status and progress of the investigations be presented at the next hearing.
