Foundation Stone Laid for New Housing Units in Badulla under “Upland Happiness” Programme

Under the “Upland Happiness” housing initiative, the foundation stone for new housing units was laid yesterday (26) in the Badulla District.
The ceremony was held under the patronage of Samantha Vidyaratna, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, at Nayabedda Estate in the Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat Division and in the Malvan area of the Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat Division.
This housing project is being implemented as a special measure to protect estate communities living in landslide-prone areas, with funding allocated by the Ministry of Plantation and Community Infrastructure.
Beneficiaries
- 11 families in Nayabedda Estate facing landslide risks
- 23 families in the Malvan area, Haldummulla
In total, 34 houses will be constructed under this project.
Investment & Facilities
- The government plans to allocate over Rs. 108 million for the housing scheme
- Each house will cost approximately Rs. 2.8 million
- An additional Rs. 400,000 will be spent on infrastructure facilities per unit
- Each beneficiary family will be granted 10 perches of land
