Over 550kg of Smuggled Beedi Leaves Seized in Negombo Operation

Sri Lanka Navy has seized more than 550 kilograms of illegally transported beedi leaves during a special operation in the Negombo lagoon area.

The raid was carried out by personnel attached to the Western Naval Command, including SLNS Kaumini. During the operation, a suspicious dinghy boat moving through the lagoon was intercepted and searched.

Upon inspection, officers discovered 553 kilograms of beedi leaves packed in 15 sacks. Two suspects along with the dinghy were taken into custody by the Sri Lanka Navy.

The seized items, along with the suspects and the boat, have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for further legal action.
