Minister and Defence Secretary Inspect Pettah Central Bus Stand

Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha (Retired Air Vice Marshal) joined Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake on an inspection visit and discussion at the Pettah Central Bus Stand in Colombo.
The Pettah Central Bus Stand, one of Sri Lanka’s main public transportation hubs, was recently reopened following renovation and refurbishment work carried out by the Sri Lanka Air Force. The multi-million-rupee project was implemented under the Government’s Clean Sri Lanka Programme initiative.
During the visit, the Minister and the Defence Secretary inspected the bus terminal’s facilities and reviewed its current operations, services, and infrastructure arrangements.
A subsequent discussion focused on management, ongoing development plans, security and public safety measures, as well as various operational challenges faced by the bus station on a daily basis. Attention was also given to improving passenger convenience, streamlining transport operations, maintaining cleanliness, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the terminal.
The event was attended by Bandu Edirisinghe, officials from the Sri Lanka Transport Board, senior officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Police, and representatives of several relevant institutions.
