Elderly Man Killed, Granddaughter Injured in Matale Road Accident
A 74-year-old man was killed in a tragic road accident that occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday (13 June) in front of the Matale Rajaveedi Police Station.
According to reports, the victim, a resident of Ukkuwela, was taking his granddaughter to a preschool in Matale when he was struck and trapped under a truck transporting LPG cooking gas cylinders from Matale to Colombo.
The impact threw the young girl from the scene, leaving her seriously injured. She was admitted to the Matale District General Hospital for treatment.
Police have arrested the truck driver in connection with the accident. Further investigations are being conducted by the Matale Police, and the driver is expected to be produced before the Matale Magistrate’s Court following the investigation.
