Excavation at Chemmani Mass Grave Yields 9 Skeletal Remains, Including Children

A total of nine sets of skeletal remains, including the remains of eight children, were recovered today (9) from the Chemmani mass grave site.

Officials also reported that a coin was recovered as a piece of evidence from atop one of the skeletal remains.

In addition, the remains of an infant were among the nine sets of skeletal remains that were unearthed and identified during today’s excavation activities.

The ongoing excavation marks the 20th day of the third phase of the Chemmani mass grave investigation, which is being conducted on Tuesday.

During today’s work, nine skeletal remains, including those of children previously identified, were fully excavated and recovered.

Meanwhile, another set of skeletal remains, including that of an infant, has been identified, and cleaning and examination work is currently underway.

According to officials, a total of 327 skeletal remains have been identified so far at the Chemmani site, of which 311 have been fully excavated.
