Five Arrested in Connection with Counterfeit US Dollars in Colombo and Wellampitiya

Police have arrested five individuals, including two women, in separate operations involving a large quantity of counterfeit US currency.
According to police, four suspects, including a woman, were arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) during a raid conducted at a star-class hotel in Colombo. During the operation, authorities seized approximately 600,000 counterfeit US dollars from the suspects.
In a related development, another woman was arrested in the Wellampitiya area after police discovered counterfeit US dollars with an estimated value of nearly Rs. 190 million. The suspect was reportedly staying at a house in the area at the time of her arrest.
Police have launched further investigations to determine the source of the counterfeit currency and whether the two incidents are connected. Authorities are also examining the possibility of a larger network involved in the production or distribution of fake foreign currency.
The suspects are expected to be produced before court, while investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department are continuing.
